It’s been a little while since I’ve written a new post, so I thought I’d share a few things I’ve been working on lately — including a couple of new designs and an old favorite that I recently rediscovered. handmade quilt designs.
This one is almost ready to ship out, so Im getting the last pictures I can before sending it to its forever home 🙂
In my Home Decor section, I’m offering a couple of smaller Lone Star block designs. The Lone Star is a tricky pattern to make, but when all those points come together, it is absolutely stunning. I love taking a traditional quilt pattern and finding ways to turn it into something smaller that can be enjoyed around the home.
This handmade quilt design has been a longtime favorite of mine because of its wavy movement and bright colors. It’s a variation of the classic Storm at Sea design, but with a fun, flowing twist.
This quilt is definitely fun to make, but it takes a good bit of precision in the piecing to keep those curves and waves flowing through the design. When it all comes together, it is worth every little bit of careful piecing.
While making the Whimsical Storm at Sea, I also came up with a small block design for home decor — or anywhere you want a little pop of color and beautiful quilting.
I’m calling this one Chain at Sea. Coming soon!
It is similar to the Whimsical Storm at Sea, but the blocks create a chain design that frames the star in the center. One of my favorite things to do is take an original quilt pattern and change it up a little. You never quite know what you’ll come up with!
I haven’t listed Chain at Sea just yet because I still need to finish binding the edge, but look for it soon. I’ll be offering it as a Made to Order design.
Rediscovering an old favorite/ Radiant StarQuilt
Recently, I had a glitch in my website system that caused me to lose a LOT of my older photos. I’ve spent quite a bit of time going through what I could recover and, unfortunately, accepting that some photos are gone for good. It was incredibly frustrating, especially since it was a server-side problem and not something I had done.
But there was a little silver lining in all that digging through old quilt photos.
I came across a beautiful quilt I had made in the past that I never actually created a listing for — the Radiant Star Quilt.
The Radiant Star is another big, colorful design, but like many of my quilts, it can also be made in different color combinations. I’m now offering it in my Made to Order Quilts section.
I’m really glad I found those old photos. Sometimes going back through your past work reminds you just how many quilts you’ve made along the way — and some deserve another chance to shine.
I hope everyone is enjoying the turn into fall. It’s one of my favorite seasons of the year, and around here it always feels like a good time to settle in, sew, and see what new ideas come together next.
There’s something special about a quilt that feels like it was made just for your home—because it was.

I’ve been busy behind the machine lately — and I’m excited to share something new and close to my heart! I just posted a fresh update on my Free Motion Quilting Blog, where I show the real texture and detail behind my hand-guided quilting. These are the kinds of stitches that make every quilt one-of-a-kind — no computers, just my hands and a steady rhythm.
Many of the photos in this post feature pieces from my New: Home Décor category — smaller handmade quilts and quilted runners, all ready to ship for the holidays. They’re the perfect way to add warmth and color to your home, or a thoughtful gift for someone special.
There’s something special about free motion quilting. Every swirl, curve, and feather you see is guided completely by hand — not a computer. It’s where my love of quilting really shines, and no two quilts ever come out exactly the same.
In this post, I’m sharing a few up-close photos of my hand-guided quilting work. These are the textures and stitch patterns that give each quilt its personality — from the bold lines of Migrating Geese to the classic rhythm of Hunter Star.
My Process in Motion
Free motion quilting is exactly what it sounds like — the fabric moves freely under the needle while I guide the stitching by hand. It’s a balance of rhythm and feel, letting the design come alive as I go.
I like to change up the batting depending on how a quilt will be used. For a soft, everyday quilt, I often use one layer of 100% cotton batting. For a little extra loft and texture, I’ll sometimes pair one cotton layer with one poly layer. And for heirloom or display quilts, double cotton gives that flatter, vintage feel I love.
Each choice affects how the quilting design pops off the surface — the depth of a swirl or the shadow of a feather can change completely just by switching the batting.
Computerized quilting has its place, but it can’t replicate the feeling of true hand-guided free motion quilting. My stitching may not be perfect, but it has life — small variations that make your quilt truly one of a kind.
Each piece is made using cotton thread wrapped in a fine polyester thread. It’s strong, durable, and perfect for everyday use — but it’s also the reason quilts should never be dry-cleaned. Over time, the chemicals can weaken that wrapped thread.
This Quilt looks great in any colorway. Plus you can reverse it, and what’s white could be gray, and where there’s blue there could be white/ or what ever contrast you like. What’s great about the lighter colors is the quilting really shows!
Many quilts you see in stores are machine-made with lower-quality materials and minimal stitching. While they may look nice at first, they often don’t hold up over time.
A handmade quilt offers:
Better construction and durability
Unique design you won’t find anywhere else
Natural cotton materials for comfort
A true heirloom piece that can be passed down
This Corner Pop quilt is created to be used, loved, and kept—not replaced.
A Quilt That Transforms Your Space
Whether placed on your bed or folded over a chair, this quilt adds warmth, texture, and personality to your home.
It’s more than bedding—it’s functional art.

There are some quilt patterns that seem to have a personality all their own.
The Lone Star Quilt is one of those quilts.
It can look traditional, patriotic, modern, dramatic, soft, colorful, simple, or completely unexpected depending on the fabrics and the way the star is arranged.
And here’s the funny part: the Lone Star hasn’t always been called the Lone Star.
Over the years, this beautiful eight-pointed star has been known by several names, including Star of Bethlehem, Mathematical Star, Star of the East, Morning Star, and Texas Star. In Texas and much of the western United States, the name Lone Star became especially associated with the pattern.
One star.
Quite a history.
And after making quite a few of them myself, I’ve learned that this is one quilt pattern that really doesn’t mind being given a little personality. Made To Order Lone Star Quilt/ custom make your own King or Queen Size Quilt.
What Is a Lone Star Quilt?
The traditional Lone Star is an eight-pointed star made from rows of small diamond-shaped pieces.
Those diamonds are arranged so the colors radiate outward from the center of the star. When the color placement is carefully planned, the eye sees rings of color moving from the center toward the points.
That is part of what makes a Lone Star so striking.
It isn’t just a star made from fabric.
It is a star made from lots and lots of very precisely arranged pieces of fabric.
Traditional examples can contain hundreds of small diamonds, and the precision required to keep all those points looking crisp is one reason the pattern became associated with skilled quiltmaking.
And yes…
They can be a little fussy.
But when everything comes together?
Oh, they are worth it.
beautiful half lone star quilt/ home decot
The Lone Star Has Had a Few Names
One of the things I love about quilt history is that patterns don’t always stay neatly inside one name.
The large eight-pointed diamond star has appeared under several different names throughout American quilt making.
Mathematical Star
One early name associated with this style of pieced star was Mathematical Star, a name used in England and along the Eastern Seaboard.
It is a wonderfully appropriate name when you look closely at the construction.
There is a LOT of geometry going on here.
Angles, diamonds, points, color placement and seam alignment all have to cooperate.
The quiltmaker who made one of these didn’t just sew pieces together.
She was doing geometry with fabric.
Star of Bethlehem
Star of Bethlehem became another widely used name for the pattern.
The name connects the star with the biblical Star of Bethlehem, and the design became one of the best-known star motifs in American quilt making.
Museum collections contain many beautiful historic examples of Star of Bethlehem quilts, including early nineteenth-century quilts made with carefully pieced diamonds.
The design traveled and changed as quiltmakers moved across the country.
And, like many quilt patterns, the name changed along the way too.
Star of the East, Morning Star and Texas Star
Other names have included Star of the East, Morning Star, Texas Star, Blazing Star and others.
Some names describe particular variations of the design, while others were simply names used by quiltmakers in different places and periods.
That is one reason searching for an old Lone Star quilt can get a little confusing.
You may be looking at essentially the same family of design while the person who made it called it something completely different.
Lone Star
And then there is Texas.
The name Lone Star became strongly associated with Texas, the Lone Star State.
The timing is particularly interesting because the large star design was already being made before Texas became the Republic of Texas in 1836. But as the design became associated with Texas, the name Lone Star became an especially natural fit.
Eventually, that name became one of the most familiar names for the pattern.
So today, if you say “Lone Star quilt,” most people know exactly what you mean.
Even if the quilt itself might once have been called something else.
lone-star-quilts-Made-To-Order
Why Is the Lone Star So Difficult?
The basic idea looks simple.
Make a star from diamonds.
How hard could that be?
Well…
Ask anyone who has actually pieced one.
The individual diamond pieces have bias edges, and the accuracy of the piecing matters enormously. A small error early in the process can become a much bigger problem as the star grows.
Traditional Lone Stars were often pieced using techniques that required very careful matching and precise seams.
That is part of the reason these quilts have such a long history as examples of impressive needlework.
A Long Overdue Handmade Quilts/ Update: New Finished Quilts, Made-to-Order Decor & What’s Coming Next
Hello everyone!
It has been a while since I’ve posted, and a LOT has happened since my last update.
I’ve been quilting, working, creating new designs, and, unfortunately, dealing with something I never expected to experience so close to home.
So today I wanted to check in, tell you what has been happening, show you some of the new finished handmade quilts now available, and give you a little preview of what is coming next.
A Devastating Summer of Fire in the Inland Northwest
This summer brought something very different to our area.
We are used to wildfire in the Northwest. Fires are part of life here, and we understand the danger that comes with them. But what happened this time was not a typical wildfire situation. it was Arson/
Multiple fires were started around the area within a very short period of time, and our community was suddenly surrounded by fire and smoke. More than 700 homes were lost, and fires came frighteningly close to the city center.
I was incredibly fortunate that my home was spared.
For those of us who still have our homes, there is a strange mixture of relief and sadness. I feel very lucky, while at the same time my heart goes out to the people who lost everything.
The smoke and poor air quality lingered for weeks, and our community is still trying to pick up the pieces and figure out what comes next.
It has been a difficult summer.
And through all of it, I have been especially grateful for the simple things — being home, having my sewing room, and being able to sit down at my machine and make something beautiful.
Sometimes quilting is work.
Sometimes it is therapy.
And sometimes it is simply a wonderful reminder that there are still good things being made in the world.
New Finished Quilted Home Decor
While things have been a little chaotic around here, I have still managed to get several new pieces finished!
The Lone Star is one of those classic quilt patterns that never seems to get old. I am currently working on a larger Lone Star quilt for an order, and I am having an absolute blast watching it come together.
There is something about those diamonds and the way all of the colors come together that makes the finished pattern so striking.
I am especially excited about this new addition to the shop.
I’ve been asked many times:
“When are you going to make ______ pattern?”
And honestly, the answer has usually been, “I don’t know!”
I have two jobs and stay pretty busy, so even when I have a particular quilt pattern I would love to make, I don’t always have time to sit down and make every design that catches my eye.
These are smaller versions of my larger quilt designs, made specifically for decorating your home. They are wonderful for the back of a couch, over a chair, on a table, or anywhere you want to add a handmade quilted accent.
And there is something important I want to clarify about these.
These are not scrap quilts.
They are not quilts made from leftover pieces sitting around my sewing room.
When you order one of these, I am making it from scratch for you.
You choose your colors, and I select and cut the fabrics specifically for your quilt. I piece the quilt, layer it with batting, quilt it, bind it, and finish it just like I do my larger handmade quilts.
The smaller size simply means that you can have a custom handmade quilt without committing to the size or price of a full bed quilt.
Most of these home decor quilts fall in the $200–$250 range, depending on the design and options.
So if you’ve ever looked at one of my larger quilts and thought, “I love that, but I don’t need a whole bed quilt,” this may be exactly what you’ve been looking for.
The Double Charmed pattern creates a wonderful star-chain effect, and with my custom quilting and double batting, these little quilts have plenty of presence.
They are a great size for the back of a couch, over a chair, or as a beautiful accent piece in a bedroom or living room.
And yes, they can also make a wonderful baby quilt if you are looking for something truly handmade and special.
Because they are smaller, they are also a fun way to bring a more traditional quilt pattern into your home without needing a full-size bed quilt.
My New Lone Star Quilts
I’ve also been playing with a collection of tropical batik fabrics, and the colors have been absolutely delicious.
I have a couple of Little Dipper Lone Star quilts, a new Log Cabin design, and a beautiful Bronze Half Lone Star quilt runner.
These colors are rich and warm — golds, bronzes, deep tones and tropical batiks that work beautifully together.
They would be wonderful for fall, but honestly, I think some of them would look just as beautiful throughout the holidays and into winter.
This is one of my favorite things about working with batiks: the colors have so much depth that the quilts can change character depending on the room and the season.
This One is a beautiful mix of cool tones. Im pieceing it right now, and it will be coming out soon with the quilting. Super excited about this one 🙂
here are some of the working pictures>
New Atlantic Fly Away Quilt
I’m also excited to introduce a completely new quilt pattern to the shop: Atlantic Fly Away.
This is the first one I’ve made in this design, and I decided to make it as a 45 x 45-inch finished quilt. The design centers around a beautiful blue star, surrounded by flying geese that create a wonderful sense of movement around the quilt. I added floral prints, soft creams, and touches of gold, pink, green, and purple, then finished it with detailed custom quilting that really brings out all of those individual pieces.
This is one of those patterns that I don’t plan to make in a King size, but I think it is perfect as a larger quilted home decor piece. It would be beautiful displayed over a chair, folded across the back of a sofa, or used as a colorful accent anywhere in your home.
And the best part — this one is finished and ready to ship!
This one is going to be a little different from my original Storm at Sea design. I’m keeping the beautiful movement of the classic pattern, but I’m adding even more color and making a few changes to the original design.
If you know my quilts, you know I love color — and this one is going to have plenty of it!
The Storm at Sea pattern is especially fun because the geometric pieces create the illusion of sweeping curves and waves across the quilt. Add a rainbow of fabrics and it becomes a completely different quilt from the traditional versions of this pattern.
It’s still in progress, so I don’t want to give away too much yet…
But this one is going to be a stunner. Stay tuned!
It has been a strange and difficult summer, and I realized that it has been far too long since I simply stopped to say hello.
So — hello!
Thank you for continuing to follow along, read my posts, look at my quilts, and support my little quilting business.
There is always something happening in my sewing room, even when I don’t manage to get a blog post out on time.
I’m looking forward to getting back into a regular rhythm here, sharing new quilts, new designs, quilting projects, and some of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into making a handmade quilt.
And I’ll be back soon with that Rainbow Storm at Sea.
neutral hexagon quilt/ Custom Made Quilts/ Made To Order Quilts/ Updated with new quilting progress photos – May 2026
Final Reveal – Soft Neutral Hexagon Quilt Complete
The Soft Neutral Hexagon Quilt is finally complete, and this has truly been one of those quilts that transforms more beautifully with every stage.
Now that the quilting is finished, the geometric patchwork has softened into one flowing texture. The busy shapes seem to gently melt together in this neutral color palette, creating a calm, layered look that feels both timeless and modern at the same time.
This quilt was densely quilted with an allover flowing design, adding texture, durability, and incredible softness throughout the entire piece. Dense quilting like this not only gives the quilt beautiful movement and dimension, but also helps create a finished heirloom quilt designed to last for generations.
There’s always a bittersweet moment at the end of a project like this. After weeks of piecing, quilting, adjusting, and watching the design slowly evolve, tomorrow this quilt will be folded carefully into a box and shipped to its new home. Before that happens, I’m taking a little time to simply enjoy it here in the studio.
This is one of the reasons I love handmade quilts so much — they become more than blankets over time. They become keepsakes, comfort pieces, and part of a family’s story.
This custom hexagon quilt is a softer take on one of my most popular patterns. While many of my hexagon quilts feature bold, vibrant fabrics, this version uses muted, neutral tones for a calm, timeless look.
This post will be updated as the quilt comes together—from fabric selection to the final stitching—so you can follow the full process from start to finish.
Every custom quilt begins with choosing the right fabrics. For this quilt, the focus is on soft neutrals—blended tones that create movement without overwhelming the pattern.
These shades work together to highlight the hexagon design while keeping the overall look subtle and balanced.
Building the Hexagon Units
Each hexagon is carefully pieced together before being joined into the larger quilt layout. This stage takes time, but it’s where the pattern really begins to take shape.
As more units are completed, you can start to see how the color placement creates depth and variation across the quilt.
Layout & Design in Progress
With the units prepared, the quilt begins to come together as one piece. This is where the full design becomes visible.
At this stage, I adjust placement as needed to keep the colors balanced and flowing naturally across the quilt.
Quilt Top Assembly
NEW UPDATE ~~ MAY 4TH ~~~~ Now that the quilt top is fully pieced, you can really see the beauty of this handmade patchwork quilt come together. Each hexagon adds subtle variation, creating a soft, flowing design that feels both structured and organic. While many people think the quilt is finished at this stage, this is actually where the transformation begins—when the quilt top, batting, and backing are layered and brought to life through the quilting process.
This next step—quilting—is where texture, depth, and durability are added. It’s also where the personality of the quilt really shows, depending on the quilting design chosen. Whether it’s a more traditional pattern or something with gentle movement, this stage turns the quilt from a pieced top into a finished heirloom.
Quilting & Finishing / UPDATE May 7th
While this quilt was created as a custom order, many of my handmade patchwork quilts for sale begin with similar tone-on-tone fabric palettes and evolve through the quilting process.
Quilting & Texture Transformation
The quilting process has now begun, and this stage completely changes the look of the quilt.
For this handmade patchwork quilt, I chose a flowing quilting design that softens the geometric lines of the hexagon pattern and blends the fabrics into one smooth overall texture. Instead of the pattern feeling busy or sharply divided, the stitching creates movement across the surface and gives the entire quilt a calm, cohesive appearance.
This is something I especially love about tone-on-tone and neutral quilts—the quilting allows the design to gently melt together while still preserving all the detail and piecing underneath.
As the quilting continues, the quilt develops more texture, dimension, softness, and durability, transforming it from a pieced quilt top into a finished heirloom-quality quilt.
Final Reveal~~~ May 18th 2026
Quilts like this are one of my favorite examples of how handmade patchwork quilts can become timeless heirloom pieces through careful quilting and thoughtful fabric choices.
Bold vs Neutral Hexagon Quilts
Most hexagon quilts I’ve made in the past feature bright, high-contrast fabrics. This version shows how the same pattern can take on a completely different feel with softer tones.
If you love the pattern but prefer a more subtle look, this style is a beautiful option.

These Wonky Squares Quilts are super fun. They have an off balance and out of line funky to them. For those who like everything squared up, but not perfectly aligned. They are tricky to make as I have no pattern. and The whole point is to have no straight lines/ seams in the design. There are never 2 squares the same in this quilt. Very Unique quilt!

Purple Crush Quilt
A Handmade Quilt Designed to Stand Out
The Blue Crush Quilt isn’t your typical pattern.
Instead of perfectly aligned seams and predictable blocks, this design moves in a more abstract direction. The shapes shift, the lines don’t always match up, and that’s exactly what gives it its character.
Every quilt turns out slightly different, making each one a true one-of-a-kind piece.

This is not a mass-produced blanket—it’s a custom handmade quilt, built to last and meant to be used.
Blue Crush Quilt
A Quilt That Breaks the Rules (and That’s the Fun Part)
I’ll be honest—this quilt challenged me the first few times I made it.
As quilters, we’re taught to line everything up perfectly. Straight seams, matching points… all of that.
This quilt does the opposite.
The seams don’t always meet the way you expect, and sometimes you really do wonder how it’s all going to come together. But by working in sections and trusting the process, it creates something completely different.
That’s what makes it so fun—and why not every quilter enjoys making it.
But the end result? Totally worth it.
A Fresh Take on a “Blue Quilt”
If you’re drawn to blue quilts but don’t want something that feels too traditional, this is a great option.
The Blue Crush Quilt blends blues with other tones and movement, giving you:
the calm feel of blue
with added depth, contrast, and personality
It works beautifully in modern spaces, layered bedding, or anywhere you want a quilt that feels a little more artistic.
Whether it’s a fresh addition to your bedroom or a thoughtful gift, this handmade King size cotton quilt for sale brings color and soul into your home.
