Final Reveal – Soft Neutral Hexagon Quilt Complete
The Soft Neutral Hexagon Quilt is finally complete, and this has truly been one of those quilts that transforms more beautifully with every stage.

Now that the quilting is finished, the geometric patchwork has softened into one flowing texture. The busy shapes seem to gently melt together in this neutral color palette, creating a calm, layered look that feels both timeless and modern at the same time.
This quilt was densely quilted with an allover flowing design, adding texture, durability, and incredible softness throughout the entire piece. Dense quilting like this not only gives the quilt beautiful movement and dimension, but also helps create a finished heirloom quilt designed to last for generations.
There’s always a bittersweet moment at the end of a project like this. After weeks of piecing, quilting, adjusting, and watching the design slowly evolve, tomorrow this quilt will be folded carefully into a box and shipped to its new home. Before that happens, I’m taking a little time to simply enjoy it here in the studio.
This is one of the reasons I love handmade quilts so much — they become more than blankets over time. They become keepsakes, comfort pieces, and part of a family’s story.

This custom hexagon quilt is a softer take on one of my most popular patterns. While many of my hexagon quilts feature bold, vibrant fabrics, this version uses muted, neutral tones for a calm, timeless look.
This post will be updated as the quilt comes together—from fabric selection to the final stitching—so you can follow the full process from start to finish.

How to Order a Handmade Quilt
Fabric Selection & Color Planning
Every custom quilt begins with choosing the right fabrics. For this quilt, the focus is on soft neutrals—blended tones that create movement without overwhelming the pattern.

These shades work together to highlight the hexagon design while keeping the overall look subtle and balanced.
Building the Hexagon Units
Each hexagon is carefully pieced together before being joined into the larger quilt layout. This stage takes time, but it’s where the pattern really begins to take shape.

As more units are completed, you can start to see how the color placement creates depth and variation across the quilt.
Layout & Design in Progress
With the units prepared, the quilt begins to come together as one piece. This is where the full design becomes visible.

At this stage, I adjust placement as needed to keep the colors balanced and flowing naturally across the quilt.
Quilt Top Assembly
NEW UPDATE ~~ MAY 4TH ~~~~ Now that the quilt top is fully pieced, you can really see the beauty of this handmade patchwork quilt come together. Each hexagon adds subtle variation, creating a soft, flowing design that feels both structured and organic. While many people think the quilt is finished at this stage, this is actually where the transformation begins—when the quilt top, batting, and backing are layered and brought to life through the quilting process.

This next step—quilting—is where texture, depth, and durability are added. It’s also where the personality of the quilt really shows, depending on the quilting design chosen. Whether it’s a more traditional pattern or something with gentle movement, this stage turns the quilt from a pieced top into a finished heirloom.

Quilting & Finishing / UPDATE May 7th
While this quilt was created as a custom order, many of my handmade patchwork quilts for sale begin with similar tone-on-tone fabric palettes and evolve through the quilting process.

Quilting & Texture Transformation
The quilting process has now begun, and this stage completely changes the look of the quilt.
For this handmade patchwork quilt, I chose a flowing quilting design that softens the geometric lines of the hexagon pattern and blends the fabrics into one smooth overall texture. Instead of the pattern feeling busy or sharply divided, the stitching creates movement across the surface and gives the entire quilt a calm, cohesive appearance.
This is something I especially love about tone-on-tone and neutral quilts—the quilting allows the design to gently melt together while still preserving all the detail and piecing underneath.
As the quilting continues, the quilt develops more texture, dimension, softness, and durability, transforming it from a pieced quilt top into a finished heirloom-quality quilt.

Final Reveal~~~ May 18th 2026
Quilts like this are one of my favorite examples of how handmade patchwork quilts can become timeless heirloom pieces through careful quilting and thoughtful fabric choices.

Bold vs Neutral Hexagon Quilts
Most hexagon quilts I’ve made in the past feature bright, high-contrast fabrics. This version shows how the same pattern can take on a completely different feel with softer tones.
If you love the pattern but prefer a more subtle look, this style is a beautiful option.
