Over the years, the Color Crush Quilt has evolved into a timeless design. The original Quilts for Sale version was created in purples and cream, crafted for a special order from the UK—my first time ever shipping overseas! While it was an exciting milestone, the fees and paperwork involved in international shipping turned out to be more than I wanted to take on as a regular offering.
Looking back at those photos from 2013—wow, how time flies! It’s incredible to see how far this design has come since those early days. Each one has been a labor of love, showcasing the artistry and dedication that goes into my handmade quilts.
If you’re looking for quilts for sale, each Color Crush Quilt is made to order with care and creativity, perfect for anyone who loves unique, handcrafted pieces. Whether you’re drawn to its bold colors or its inspiring abstract design, this quilt is a celebration of both tradition and modern flair/

The Journey of Hand-Dyeing Fabrics: Handmade Quilts, Made to Order with Love
The Color Crush Quilt played a pivotal role in inspiring my journey into hand-dyeing fabrics. Finding the perfect shade of purple wasn’t always easy, so I decided to take matters into my own hands—literally! Hand-dyeing fabric quickly became a super fun yet challenging adventure. There’s so much work involved in dyeing fabrics, especially in small batches, but starting small is key to mastering the process.
The greens gave me the hardest time, often refusing to turn out just right. But through trial and error, I discovered the joy of creating stunning purples, vibrant blues, and rich oranges. The dark, deep oranges became my personal favorite—who knew there were so many beautiful shades of orange waiting to be uncovered?
This process has added a whole new layer of creativity and customization to my handmade quilts. Each fabric I dye is infused with care and intention, making every quilt truly unique. The journey of hand-dyeing has deepened my love for quilting, allowing me to offer made-to-order quilts that celebrate the artistry of color and texture.

The name “Color Crush Quilt” began with this vibrant orange version, inspired by the nostalgic Orange Crush soda.
But what happens when you create it in blue? Naturally, it becomes “Blue Crush!” This evolution sparked the idea of naming the collection Color Crush Quilt—a perfect reflection of its colorful versatility. I’ve always dreamed of making it in yellow someday; wouldn’t that be awesome!
The “Crush” in the name also speaks to its unique, abstract design. Unlike traditional quilts where seams align perfectly, these blocks embrace an unmatched, organic assembly. It’s a style not every quilter prefers, but it offers an inspiring creative challenge.
I remember thinking Orange Crush was perfect because I was trying to Crush the Blocks together, LOL especially at the end when you need to fit the last pieces in to get the size and to end up square with no half blocks. . Piecing it together demands patience, especially the first time. But with practice—just like anything in handmade quilting—it becomes more intuitive and enjoyable. Its also why I often don’t use patterns. When you don’t use patterns…. you cant do it wrong! haha ~ ( true story) reading patterns is a whole different set of skills. I often just wing it~
One of the joys of selling handmade quilts and custom-made quilts online is seeing how each version refines my skills. Each Color Crush Quilt is a one-of-a-kind, handcrafted work of art, offering a fresh, modern take on quilting while honoring the beauty of imperfection.

Color Crush: Handmade Quilts and the Magic of Light
Did you know that quilt tops can double as stunning window treatments? The delicate layers of a quilt top, like those in my Color Crush Quilt, create an effect reminiscent of stained glass when sunlight filters through. The hand-dyed fabrics add even more depth and uniqueness to the look, as each shade comes alive with vibrant hues.
Hand-dyeing these fabrics is an intricate process, involving multiple steps to achieve just the right colors. It’s a labor of love, especially with small batches, but the results are worth it. The subtle variations in the purples, blues, and oranges I dye by hand give each piece its own character—perfect for creating quilts with unmatched beauty.
Using a quilt as a window treatment is a unique way to showcase its artistry, though it does come with a trade-off: over time, sunlight can naturally fade the colors. Lining the back side can help, but it slightly changes the luminous effect. For a high-up window or a space where you want a bold, colorful statement, a quilt top transforms into a one-of-a-kind “stained glass” display. I even made a small one for my bathroom, and the playful interplay of color and light is absolutely mesmerizing.
If you’re looking for handmade quilts or custom-made quilts, consider their potential beyond traditional use. The artistry of a quilt can bring warmth, color, and creativity to your home in unexpected ways.
