This Week finishing up this super pretty and Classic ” Barn Raising” Log Cabin Quilt

Endless Possibilities with Log Cabin Quilts

I’ve listed two other options—On Point Log Cabin and Wavy Log Cabin—but I’ve made Log Cabin quilts in at least six other variations! This timeless, versatile pattern offers nearly endless design possibilities.

If you explore different layouts, you’ll see dozens of ways to arrange the blocks. Small changes—like spinning the blocks, varying strip widths, or playing with size differences—can create completely unique looks. There are so many tricks to explore, it’s impossible to list them all!

Have a Log Cabin quilt design in mind? Send me a picture! I’ll let you know if I can make it—and I’m always up for a challenge.

Whole Cloth Quilts – A Timeless & Elegant Alternative

Not everyone in my family loves quilts, at least not the patchwork kind. If you (or someone you know) prefer a simpler yet stunning alternative, a Whole Cloth Quilt might be the perfect solution!

White is tricky to photograph, but I’ve included different examples to show the beauty of these quilts in various lighting. Let me create one just for you! ~~Whole Cloth Made To Order

Behind the Seams — A Peek at My New Home Décor Quilts/ Quilts By Taylor

Handmade Quilts/ Custom Made Quilts/ Made To Order Quilts/ Quilts for Sale

I’ve been busy behind the machine lately — and I’m excited to share something new and close to my heart! I just posted a fresh update on my Free Motion Quilting Blog, where I show the real texture and detail behind my hand-guided quilting. These are the kinds of stitches that make every quilt one-of-a-kind — no computers, just my hands and a steady rhythm.

Many of the photos in this post feature pieces from my New: Home Décor category — smaller handmade quilts and quilted runners, all ready to ship for the holidays. They’re the perfect way to add warmth and color to your home, or a thoughtful gift for someone special.

New Store Category linked here>> Quilted Home Decor /Mini Quilts

There’s something special about free motion quilting. Every swirl, curve, and feather you see is guided completely by hand — not a computer. It’s where my love of quilting really shines, and no two quilts ever come out exactly the same.

In this post, I’m sharing a few up-close photos of my hand-guided quilting work. These are the textures and stitch patterns that give each quilt its personality — from the bold lines of Migrating Geese to the classic rhythm of Hunter Star.

My Process in Motion

Free motion quilting is exactly what it sounds like — the fabric moves freely under the needle while I guide the stitching by hand. It’s a balance of rhythm and feel, letting the design come alive as I go.

I like to change up the batting depending on how a quilt will be used. For a soft, everyday quilt, I often use one layer of 100% cotton batting. For a little extra loft and texture, I’ll sometimes pair one cotton layer with one poly layer. And for heirloom or display quilts, double cotton gives that flatter, vintage feel I love.

Each choice affects how the quilting design pops off the surface — the depth of a swirl or the shadow of a feather can change completely just by switching the batting.

Why Hand-Guided Quilting Matters

Computerized quilting has its place, but it can’t replicate the feeling of true hand-guided free motion quilting. My stitching may not be perfect, but it has life — small variations that make your quilt truly one of a kind.

Each piece is made using cotton thread wrapped in a fine polyester thread. It’s strong, durable, and perfect for everyday use — but it’s also the reason quilts should never be dry-cleaned. Over time, the chemicals can weaken that wrapped thread.

Thanks as always for following along and supporting handmade work. Every stitch, swirl, and feather means a lot — especially this time of year.

Bicycle Quilt Getting Some Thread Love/ Handmade Quilts/Free Hand – Free Motion -Quilting/ Part 3

Handmade Quilts/ Bicycle Quilt/ Getting the Quilting this week!

After Getting over a foot of snow and digging out, now this week its in the 50’s and the snow is almost gone! Too bad I can still feel the pain of shoveling, as I look out and see no more snow… LOL and Good News, we had some Robins show up, so you know spring is on the way! YAY!

But Im all outlined and ready to start dropping thread. Starting from the middle and working outward.

Close Up Of the Quilting/ Handmade Quilts/ Custom Made Quilts

Its coming along Beautifully! This one is Double Batted, which makes it really special. It has great Light ans Shadow to it. Im still not sure what to do around the flower part, Its too much fun doing the petals. 🙂

The Backing on this Handmade Quilt is a Print on Demand Cotton from Spoonflower. They had soooo many options on what you could have printed on fabric. Im looking forward to maybe submitting some of my own photos and make some another very fun quilt. This one is themed Bicycles, but Im sure they have anything you could think of.

Custom Made Quilt/ Bicycle Quilt/ Dream Big Floral Quilt

The Petals are getting bigger, and now I can mix and match with in each, the puffyiness is fun.

Doing the Tiny Squares, and Ribbon Candy Border

I just love the way the squares are staying puffy, and yet framed up nice with the ribbon candy design. I never like ribbon candy as a kid, never understood why anyone liked it. ~~~ But I love it as a quilting design !

Center Is all Quilted Up! On to The Borders!

I still have no idea the final vision, but I’m going to start with scallops around the flower center and go from there. I think it needs to be something simple and flowing. So I may draw on it with chalk a couple times before I commit to anything… LOL

Chalking Out a design/ Or not…

So sometimes you just don’t know what to quilt. and you build on it as you go.

I loved using my Teryl Loy 16 ” Arc Ruler. not only for the quilting, but as a drawing tool. I marked it all up, then decided on something else. So today starting anew…. I’m dusting out my chalk and starting fresh, LOL ~~

Stars / Daisies/ Squares/ Custom Quilts/ Handmade Quilts

Each border element, is all coming together , The good news is once I figure out what I want to do, the other 3 sides will be easy 🙂 Its just the … deciding/ Like cooking dinner, you could cook anything, but someone give ya an idea>< I always say Tacos! ~~ Maybe I will try another ruler...

Dream Big/ Bicycled Quilt Finished Up!

Wow, Its finished! It was a great day to get the last of the quilting done, and even got the binding on! ( thats rare all in 1 day… ha~ ( I started early) Once I decided what I was going to do on the one side the other 3 sides were a lot faster, but wow… when I got it in the sun I was so excited. This one was so much fun.

The Backing fabric is fun too I got that fun fabric from Spoonflower~ they had lots of fun Bicycle Themed fabrics. The bicycles are what inspired the Scalloped Edge Border, and once I did them they reminded me of bicycle tires, with the spokes . so I did the other side and it formed a path down the center, which with the straight lines sort of looked like a suspended wooden bridge. Or planks of a bridge.

I’m Not sure how many people would ride their Bicycle over a suspended wooden bridge…. I would probably walk it across… but hey, I’m not a huge risk taker. But once I got it in my head the scallops were the tires, that all I thought about as I finished~~ haha. Super fun one here !

Finishing Up The Quilted Pillow Shams

Some of the most tedious work is the little details, and its such a great day when they all come together. I spent the day washing, and drying the quilt, while I finished up the quilting on the pillows. It was a busy week! Super excited to get this one to its home. Its fun been a Journey for me, and truly a one of a kind quilt. ( so don’t go telling anyone I can make this one again….haha! ) Its super cute! The sad part is I have to put it in a box, that’s always bitter sweet.

Washed up and Ready to go Home Soon!
