Whimsical Storm At Sea Quilt – Blue
My Whimsical Storm At Sea is my playful variation of the traditional Storm At Sea quilt design. Instead of keeping the blocks in a more traditional arrangement, I brought Snail’s Trail blocks into the design to create much more movement.
The result is a quilt that seems to swirl and roll across the surface — almost like waves moving across the ocean.
This blue and white version really shows off that movement. The contrast between the deep blues, turquoise, and creamy white lets your eye follow the curves through the entire quilt.
A Different Kind of Storm At Sea
Storm At Sea is one of those fascinating quilt patterns where geometric pieces can create the illusion of curves and waves. I’ve taken that idea a step further with this version.
The Snail’s Trail blocks are what give this quilt its whimsical personality. Rather than simply seeing rows of geometric blocks, you see curves, spirals, and movement flowing from one section into the next.
It’s the kind of quilt that looks different the longer you look at it.
Finished & Ready to Ship
This finished quilt measures approximately 30 x 30 inches, making it a wonderful size for quilted home decor.
Display it on a wall, drape it over a chair, place it on a table, or use it anywhere you want a small handmade quilt with a lot of personality.
This quilt is made with 100% cotton fabrics and has two layers of batting — one layer of cotton batting and one layer of high-loft polyester batting. The double batting gives this small quilt extra texture and dimension.
It has already been washed and dried flat, which helps preserve the fresh look and texture of the quilting.
This is a finished, one-of-a-kind handmade quilt and is ready to ship.
Why I Call It Whimsical
There is a traditional Storm At Sea quilt hiding in here — but it doesn’t behave quite like one.
The addition of the Snail’s Trail blocks changes the feel of the design completely. The curves seem to move around the quilt rather than simply following a straight grid.
That’s where the Whimsical Storm At Sea name came from.
I really like this because it explains the name instead of making it look like “Whimsical” is just a cute adjective.
