Custom Made Quilts vs Store-Bought Quilts: What’s the Difference?

  1. 1. Materials
  2. Custom Made: High-quality 100% cotton, carefully chosen fabrics, often pre-washed for longevity.
  3. Store-Bought: Often blends or synthetic fillers, mass-dyed fabrics, not designed to last decades.
  4. 2. Craftsmanship
  5. Custom Made: Individually pieced and quilted with attention to detail — no shortcuts.
  6. Store-Bought: Produced in bulk with factory machines and limited human oversight.
  7. 3. Uniqueness
  8. Custom Made: Every quilt is one-of-a-kind, made just for you.
  9. Store-Bought: Mass produced with repeated designs — you’ll see the same one in dozens of homes.
  10. 4. Size Accuracy
  11. Custom Made: True-to-size King and Queen quilts that fit deep mattresses and drape beautifully.
  12. Store-Bought: Standard sizing that often runs small and skimps on overhang.
  13. 5. Emotional Value
  14. Custom Made: Built to become an heirloom, tell a story, or mark a milestone.
  15. Store-Bought: Functional, but not personal — easy to forget, and often replaced.

As someone who’s been quilting for years, I’ve seen firsthand the difference real materials and real care make. Every quilt I create is stitched with intention — not just to look good, but to feel good, hold up over time, and mean something special to the person receiving it. Whether you’re decorating a new home, celebrating a milestone, or simply investing in quality, a handmade quilt tells a story store-bought can’t. Below are just a few recent examples of custom made quilts I’ve finished — each one unique, each one built to last. Follow Me On Pinterest

Civil War Stars Quilt

A striking star design inspired by traditional Civil War patterns, this quilt blends classic Americana style with rich, earthy tones. Perfect for rustic, farmhouse, or historic-inspired bedrooms, it’s made from 100% cotton and quilted with heirloom precision.

This one is a customer favorite for a reason. The mini chain detail gives it a beautifully intricate texture, while soft color transitions create visual balance and comfort. Whether in a neutral palette or a bolder combo, this quilt is timeless and elegant.

There’s something deeply satisfying about wrapping up a quilt and sending it off to its new home. I don’t just make quilts — I make keepsakes. And I want you to love yours every time you see it at the end of your bed or folded over your favorite chair. That’s the joy of custom work: it’s made just for you, in your colors, your size, and your style.

So if you’ve been scrolling through endless store listings and nothing feels quite right — let’s talk. Whether you’re drawn to bold color, subtle tradition, or something in between, I’m here to help bring your vision to life. My quilts are available in Queen and King sizes only, and each one is made to order, with your input along the way.

Heirloom Repairability

Unlike store-bought quilts that wear out quickly, a handmade quilt can often be repaired, reinforced, or refreshed if it ever snags or wears thin. That’s the beauty of owning something crafted with care — it’s meant to last, and it’s never disposable. “If it does ever get a loose or broken thread, get it repaired right away… a handmade quilt can be repaired if needed”

I stitch my quilts in 14 stitches per inch… a handmade quilt is densely stitched—it’s not going anywhere”

About the Stitching Density

💡 Did You Know?
One way to spot a truly handmade quilt is in the stitching. I stitch my quilts with 14 stitches per inch, creating a dense, durable finish built to last for generations. That’s one of many ways a custom quilt outperforms a mass-produced one.
