Prepared the fabrics and Im ready to babysit this project the next 36 hours.
I really hope it turns out, I doing a graduated coloring from dark to light. means im going to have to lower the fabric I have rolled onto PVC slowly and let it process at different timings 🙂 Im shooting for a shades of Lilac, and want to do some custom freestyle quilting after I finish. Im only doing the front tonight the back will be another project. 🙂

I want to keep this project all on one post for future readers 🙂Â
Im so Excited this quilt got the finishing touches this week and is on its way to its home!
The Quilting on this one really softened the pattern to the eye. When I first started it basic blocks seemed very striking, and with the nice sharp contrast between the Primary Colors that were chosen by the customer, up against the bright white was really sharp. With the quilting it softened it. In the end it turned out beautiful!
I kept thinking as I made it, I have to wash these colors, and the worry about color running. BUT thats the beauty of custom made. I pre washed all these fabrics before I made it. So it washed up after wards amazing. Bright whites and sharp colors. Whew!!! 🙂
Using quality fabrics has a lot to do with it also. Nice fabrics dont let color go as much as a lesser quality fabric would have. I have no fear to put dark and light colors together, if done right, it can be done. 🙂 I was proud to ship out this beauty 🙂
So what do you do with all the extra cuts, and pieces? Well I’ve had to get creative sometimes 🙂
If you ever wonder when you see a quilt… wth? ~~ think about that..
it could be parts from other quilts, that you eventually
have to do something with 🙂
Ive made some real uglo’s over the years, LOL ~ BUT…
This one might be super cute. This one starts from Blocks and parts from the Original quilt. It was a border Idea, that I decided not to go with On my Primary Star Quilt. Â
I went with a better border , for that quilt.
So, now I have this 4 patch cluster of blocks to work with
I made quite a few before I decided… ha~~ cause thats what i do 😉
Anyhoo, thinking about tricking out a cool border for it.
Will focus on it being a “mini” for now, but its already pretty big. We will See~
What will become of this mini? 🙂
ok
So…… I also discovered the extra stars I had Stashed away from practice runs on the Original Quilt
So now I have this :)))
Sooo cute with the stars sorta off to the side! Now what?
After all Im using the scraps , practice blocks
anything goes <3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok so Updated now, 10/10/17 I have almost a queen quilt
So much for it being a “mini” ~ cause Im known for that
Start off thinking small and cute, Then like it so much I decided
to make more parts to go with the spare parts I started with,
Super Cute Quilt top!!! Time to get this one under the long arm!!
This Quilt was made for a family member, she challenged me to do it, 🙂 Well, actually she sent me the Book, the Ruler, and the fabrics too. So I took the hint. and I did it. I never thought about listing it on a made to order till now, It was several years ago and it is a challenging pattern, but It turned out amazing. The fabrics were what made this one so cool. They were very high end Cottons, with that shimmer to them. Beautiful~
I’m willing to make this pattern again, They wouldnt have to be in these shades of colors, could be scrappy multi colored ( always my favorite) Or in modern Black and white, lots of ways to go with this color way.
** some of the pictures are from before finishing, and during construction **
These colors just make me happy; ), not sure where im headed next here, maybe a solid block in between them, or a 4 patch, i dunno 😉
but they are so cute! I need to separate the blocks some, so the patchwork really shows
So here’s a quick list of the things I have been asked over the last 5 years of selling my Quilts online.
in case you’re wondering ~~” How does this work”?
feel free to contact me before hand to discuss size and colors.~~~
Heres The BASICS: ~~~~~~~~~~~
After you make your purchase, I will start with pictures of fabrics, and color choices and your style in mind, we will start to build the collection based on your colors, and fabrics for your Quilt. After we have decided on fabrics and colors and size I can get started on making your Quilt. Nothing happens over night with quilts, and there are always choices and different options that may or may not come up along the way. I am good about discussing your options , showing in pictures if I can. and to let you see the process of Making your Quilt. It’s always fun to share the fun 🙂
I always use 100% Cotton Fabrics, New, Quality Fabrics, and all is pre washed before making your Quilt.I Free Motion Machine Quilt and Machine Bind your quilt,I use 100% Warm and Natural Cotton Backing ( if you’re wanting a different type it can be done, please message me first)
!00% Whole cloth Cotton Backing Fabric. ( in off white, white or hand dyed to match)
The patterns I offer here all have ways of customizing them in Color and Size. But Changing pattern doesnt really work. New Pattern Ideas are always welcome. If you have a picture of something you have in mind, I may be willing to Do it ( if I feel I can) ~ we can discuss and set up a Private Listing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Quilt Care:
I pre wash all my fabrics before I make your Quilt, and after I make your Quilt.
My Quilts are made to be used and love in real life. Machine Wash ( in Large washer) with cool water, Mild Soap.
Tumble dry on med heat. Because I will have washed it already for the first time, It wont be scary for you to wash it.
My Turn around time also varies. I will start after we have somewhat decide on fabrics and sizing and colors. But it can Vary on a lot of things. Hand Dyed Items always take longer. I do my quilts in the order they come in, so I basically say 10 to 12 weeks to be safe. Often it is sooner than that 🙂
HOW to Gauge the SIZING for your needs<– important
Step one is to measure how many inches you’re wanting to hang off the edge of your size bed,  ~it’s not about the surface measures of your bed, It’s about: how much you want to drape on the side of your bed? to find that,  Add the standard surface Length/width measure, to the inches you want to hang off the edge.
Example: On A Queen size bed, the length is 80 inches. You want 10 inches to hang over, *for both sides*, so you add the 20 inches of drape, to the 80 inches surface measure / and you have a measure of 100 inches~ that falls into King Size.
In inches here’ s my measures with the approx. drape added in:
Lap Size~~~~~ approx ~~75 X~85
Over Queen~~~~ up to  96 inches
King~~~~~~` up to 105 inches
I make my quilts by measuring inches, not by a standard “names”~ Please know what you want by taking the time to get those measures from your bed, before ordering. Or message me and I can help you figure out if your unsure 🙂
Noteworthy on ALL my quilts, is if you know your measures, is my sizes are all AFTER washing. I pre wash all your fabrics before I make the quilt, And I will have washed and dried your quilt , That means, You will have no shrinkage after you wash it, and My Lap Sizing is generous.
Sorta like buying pre shrunk Levis, back in the day~ This is my best guarantee that you get the “measure” you have ordered. Size names really mean nothing to me. first thing I will ask is, “whats your measure” haha ~ just sayin 🙂
so for “lap size Quilt” they are on the larger side of most of what I see online.
I would suggest ordering 1 size up from your bed. Especially if your used to buying store-bought bedding/ “bed in a bag”
Its my experience that you can and will lose 5 to 10 inches in shrinkage on any given quilt. So I choose: to use more fabric, and pre shrink it first. Then it will be the right size. That is ~some ~of what is built into my pricing.
I am a free form, Free Motion Quilter. all that means is Im free style, it’s not computerized. Im more Organic. I use a long arm machine to do all the finishing myself. I use Quality Thread and can and will quilt it in several designs or motifs we may decide on.
My Basic Stippling, Meandering stitch gives great texture, and with Med Density, so its quilted more than most quilts I see online. It is truly what I feel is the best part and is more of why my price structure here is what it is. To pay someone to quilt these big quilts starting rate 400.00 and up. Custom Quilting Prices starting MUCH higher than that. And just for the quilting/finishing.
I don’t need to pay for someone to do that. I do it all myself from start to finish . And I pride myself in quality professional level work. Please refer to any of my links to see close-ups of my quilting. 🙂
I make Beautiful Keepsake Quilts with quality fabrics and notions, Quilts that are meant to be used and loved in a~ real life way. Do they last forever? They can as long as cared for properly. You should never Dry clean one of my quilts. That process is not good for the thread. Do people love them even more the longer they have them? YES> Quilts are one of those things that people have everyday in their lives for a long time. And they cherish and edear as time goes by. My Quilts are machine washable (in a big enough washer), cool water mild soap. Tumbled Dry on med. to low heat. Simple care instructions can make your quilt be around for your next generations.
Anyhoo, thats a bit about how my process works.
I am happy to answer any questions, or clear any confusion I may have caused>< 🙂
So Today Im busy doing the Border Blocks, For My Primary Star Colored Quilt. This one is a commissioned Piece, so they choose the colors, and the pattern~ Then I took it form there. Its a Sharp and striking combo. Bold and contrasting with the white.
Although It wouldnt be the colors I like in my home, I can vision this in many color ways. If you changed the white to Gray and added teal cool tones, or rustic home colors with off white all would be amazing . I have a smaller one, I started with, its with mixed colors with Gray, <– link to it
I struggle with the so many ideas, and not enough time to implement them all.. LOL BUT this Pattern could look soft and warm feeling too if you were to change to a softer array of colors.
So I have this going on today, 2 King size cases, for 2 orders ~;)
ones is hand dyed burnt orange, to go with the Orange Crush Quilt I made for her last year it looks like this :
and also geometric one just for fun weeeeee! Changing threads for this type of Custom Quilting can be tricky, I try to work more than 1 Case at a time. Threading and re threading a big machine many times over~~ I’ve timed myself ( under 35 seconds) , Im not saying I would break world records on threading that big boy, but I could hold my own in a race~… LOL seriously thats what makes these Pillow Cover so amazing is the color in the thread, which doesn’t always show in pics. Any hooo Sew Ya Later~ <3
The texture this type of quilting is so funky and fun!
I will be doing a Whole Cloth Quilt, with this type of Quilting in the up coming weeks, I have someone special that I have been planning out what to do, and I decided a whole 1 piece quilt, with this style of quilting would be amazing!
So that’s next on the List to get started.
For now I have the Shams that can be ordered, and after I finish the larger quilt I will be having it up for ordering. Im pretty excited about whole Cloth Quilts, as it really lets the “quilting pop”.
Join my mailing list if you want to see these projects in the making coming up .. soon 🙂
Here’s My Collection Of Custom Quilted Pillow Shams.
I wanted a way to show the different types of quilting styles, in a smaller project, and to show the different ways I can quilt a Quilt. I do all my Free Motion Quilting free hand. Meaning it’s not computerized quilting. So no 2 are exactly the same. All beautiful in their own way depending on your taste. These Decor Pillows are the perfect way to showcase some really awesome Quilting.
These Shams will out last the pillow, as I have made them very durable, by double batting them, and all the quilting that’s on them they surely aren’t going to fall apart. LOLÂ
I use High Quality Thread, and a lot of them I have changed thread many times to include a multi colored Quilting. That doesn’t always show in the pictures. But They are super nice, and have been washed and dried flat to keep the quilting as it is. You can dry these it just changes the quilting a bit. But Since I have pre washed and dried them BEFORE and after I made them, they will stay this nice for Many years to come.
I will be doing some in more colors soon, for now Im focused on white so you can really see the quilting, which is what really makes these fabulous.
I dont include the actual pillow, it would cost more to ship the pillow than to buy the pillow. Most all the ones I make that are ready to ship are King Size Shams, I do have some standard Queen Sized, and some Square Pillows. You can custom order any of those sizes you prefer. Message me if you have any questions.
 Â
The thickness of these are different from a quilt. They are super soft and puffy when the pillow in inside, but they are thicker and more durable than a quilt. Awesome Decor Pillows.They make a real statement to a room, I have a colored one on my couch right now, and everyone always draws right to it. :)’
Any Hoo, Im back to sewing~ Sew ya later. Sign up for my Blog to see weekly post like this one 🙂
Soooooooo I have this website pretty much running, It may not be pretty and some links aren’t connected right, but its working. I want to catch up mu Blog with groupings of Quilts, so I’m on a mission to get things all set up and a warm fuzzy feeling. LOL (im actually ready to toss this computer out the window) BUT… I think its over all looking pretty good. So Back to some of my favorite blast from the past, Custom Ordered Quilts that I have made for customers.
This Beautiful Quilt Pattern, is a Display of a Classic Patchwork Quilt.
Trip Around the World
I’ve made this one several times as shown here in Pictures. Sometimes its hard to visualize a quilt pattern in your colors. I’m good at that part, I see the finish line first, then I make a plan. Sometimes people have to see a picture and say have it be just like that one. I get it. But also know there are so many things you can customize to make it look completely different. This quilt is a classic pattern and is easy to visualize it in your colors
.

Well i decided to do something more to my black and white 4 patch blocks, now they are a little bigger and a whole lot bolder looking. Now what…they need something… lol be back when i figure this one out a little more. It’s always FUN to figure out what to do with all the spare parts i collect. ♡♡♡ Sew ya Later! 🙂
So far I have tried 2 Color ways in this quilt. Fall colors, in Queen, which is a finished quilt.
This min is getting some bubbles on it 🙂
Im doing the free motion quilting on it today. it’s looking so cute. Doing what I call moon walk, cause the roundness of the circles remind me of the moon’s surface.
The fall colored Quilt is quilted with a denser meander and straight lines through the stars. It’s a nice textile feel and will be around a long time.  for now im back to quilting the pink and blue cutie 🙂 will post back finished pics 🙂
This pink and Blue one has fewer blocks because I did a pieced sashing in between them, so they can show the difference in how they can be ordered 🙂 Blog on ” How Placing an Order Works here”
So Here I go, I have 30 blocks to my Star Quilt Top all made up.
This is a Custom Order Quilt, they chose Primary colors with white. Its a very sharp Quilt Pattern.
I made the Lap Size Quilt one as my test run, its super cute, with Custom Quilting. Perfect for a Baby or young child. The quilting is sharp might look great in a sun room, or somewhere you want a pop of color.
Quilts are a great way to decorate a room, or as a focal point.
With this Quilt its going to be King Size Quilt, so I have a lot of work to do yet before I can even get to the quilting part. My favorite part… :)))
his Is a really sharp pattern with the basic primary colors I am a ways from a finished but this is a big day in my world.
I have done this one in several variations, Its a fun scrappy Quilt Pattern.
Anyhooooooo , Im back to work Everyone have a great day!
So Im still having trouble with a few things in the site. Cant seem to display the separate categories I have labeled all my products, so I could have direct link to the “finished quilt ” section. I had it yesterday, today its not there… hahaha maybe something I did~I dunno. menus and categories arent playing well together~~:)
So Im moving on~~ and starting to build up something in this blog to enjoy. and sharing one of my favorite Hand Dying experiences for a quilt. Orange Crush. I made so many different shades and they all worked together so well. I never knew I could like orange so well. 🙂 anyhoo~ Back to sewing!
well I got this site up and functioning, <– easier to write that than do it… ha~
but Im pretty happy with how it is so far, it can only get better from here 🙂
Word Press really is pretty easy. After 4 years on Etsy it feel good to be putting in this effort towards my own site , not just theirs. So Now I have 2 outlets 🙂
I need to get back to sewing! I have 1 order in progress, and half a dozen of my own I want to get done this month.
Im hoping to get my full inventory of quilts up buy this weekend 🙂
I’m in the process of transferring my Quilt business to here on my own site. I’m pretty excited about it.
My full Store on Etsy is there too if you would like to see my reviews and other listings.
My Etsy Store here:Â https://www.etsy.com/shop/QuiltsByTaylor
I’m just starting up this site, I’m having to learn a bunch of stuff that’s not sewing…. I’m struggling.. haha 🙂
But Its moving along pretty well for a newbie to web design. It can only get better right? 🙂
If you have ordered quilts from me before you may find your quilt in here somewhere on display.
As I make this site, I realize how MANY quilts I have made over the years. And thought how great would it be to have all my quilts on display at once together?? wow, that would be amazing. But… my quilts are all over the world. Last year alone I made 32 quilts.
I hope you enjoy looking around at my site so far, and seeing the art of my craft. and see the love put into my pieces.
Sign up for my blog to see newest projects Im working. 🙂
I started listing My King size Quilts, But Im also trying to figure out how to put the size options in, havent found that trick yet, I would like to find that before I start listing all individually. Ohhhh what Im learning! 🙂
I am going to be adding pictures of my quilts, so if you have any questions, or want to place an order, I can, just might take me a bit to get all my ducks in a row 🙂
thanks for stopping by !
My full Etsy store is set up for orders until then.
Ok , So I’m off and running! so much to learn! But I have some basics up. Whew~~ I need a nap!
9/30/17
I have this site up and working, it just might not make sense. The clicks don’t exactly go where they should, but they are all there.If you have any questions about an Order For a Handmade Quilt, I’m here, Im starting to make blog post of all my quilts, so you can “eventually” see the making of each design, I have all the photos, I just have to get them all on here. I guess I thought after 3 weeks, I would have more understanding of web settings, but I so appreciate the sites that are user friendly… Im trying to get my site closer to that, but it all takes time. 🙂
I do Have my full Etsy store, I have been on their site about 5 years and its all set up there too.
Its my plan to use this site as a way to show the different things that can be done, and custom choices that can be made, but aren’t easy to do on Etsy.
Custom Quilting is hard to ” list” each quilt is so different and some just simply a lot more work than others. I will be posting 2 to 3 times a week in here, with most progress photos of whatever Im working on. So if you like to see the “making” of these quits drop your email in my blog list and it will send you updates directly to your email.
Thank you so much for looking, and Bare with me as I build up a lifetime of beautiful quilts on here so everyone can see them 🙂
